Obituary
Theodis Young Sr. was born to T.C. and Lillie Mae Young on January 19, 1937 in Brierfield, Alabama. He confessed to Christ at an early age and joined Wayman Chapel A.M.E. Methodist Church. He later joined Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church in 1973 and was baptized under the leadership of Rev. W.T. Evans. In 2011, he moved his membership from Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church to Morning Star Christian Church under the leadership of Pastor Corey Salter where he served as a Deacon until God called him home.
Theodis attended the H.B. Davidson High School in Centerville, Alabama. At the age of 18 he became a Mason at the Temple Lodge No. 485 Prince Hall affiliated. As a mason he was a worshipful master at Temple Lodge No. 485 for over 25 years.
Theodis met his wife Queen Esther Valentine Young in 1956 and later married on February 9, 1958. Through this union seven children were born.
Throughout his lifetime he worked at Brown Molding located in Montevallo, AL; Abex located in Calera, AL; Southern Cement located in Calera, Al; Bibb County Training School as a bus driver located in Centerville, AL and in 1967 he became a Coal Miner at SEGCO Mining Company. In 2001, he retired from Oak Grove Coal Mining after 34 years of service.
Theodis was well known throughout the community and never met a stranger. He was a part of the Almont Taggers Baseball Team and formed an all women’s softball team called The Tigers later changed to the Almont All Stars. He was a Community Leader and was always there to help when he could. He donated wood, vegetables, and coal to needy families and also went throughout the community cutting grass when there was a need. He was a true servant of Christ and lived life with one goal of making it to Heaven.
He is preceded in death by his parents T.C. (Lillie Mae) Young his Daughter Sheryl Long, Grandson Queshawn Young,, Sisters Roxie Sims Lightfoot and Gladys Gean Young
He leaves to cherish his loving memories, a devoted wife of 63 years, Queen Esther Valentine Young, Children: Theodis (Lennie) Young Jr (Alabaster, AL; Vanesa Young Montevallo, AL; David (Monica) Young Fairhope, Al; Pamela Reed Montevallo, AL; Veronica (Quenton) Smitherman, Montevallo, AL Marcus (Celia) Young San Diego, CA Harry Long III, Hoover, AL Ebony (Damon Jr) Snead Columbus, MS; Corey (Carla) Salter Hoover, AL; Corlando (Danielle) Bivins Tuscaloosa, AL; 15 Grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; Siblings: Benny Young (Elizabeth), Albert Young, Thomas Young, Rev. Charles Young (Ruth), Clifton Young (Delores), Diane Young, and a host of nieces and nephews. and a host of other relatives and friends.
Viewing will be held Friday, Sept. 10, 2021 from 4:00 P.M. - 6:00 P.M. at The Good Shepherd.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, Sept. 11, 2021 at 12:00 Noon at Westwood Baptist Church in Alabaster with burial following at Ebenezer Cemetery in Brierfield.
